new warnings about using lindane (formerly Kwell) for lice or scabies
After all these years of controversy, the FDA is finally requiring new warnings about using lindane (formerly Kwell) for lice or scabies. Kwell has been discontinued...only generic lindane is available now.
Lindane is an insecticide and it can cause neurotoxicity in children.
Try to avoid using lindane. For lice, use Nix (permethrin). Sometimes you're forced to use lindane if it's the only choice on the formulary...or if you need a PRESCRIPTION product for patients with insurance that doesn't cover the OTC products.
