Answer Questions About Alcohol Use With Metronidazole

You’ll hear debate about whether there’s really an interaction between metronidazole and alcohol.

We’ve been taught to tell patients to avoid alcohol during and for 3 days after taking metronidazole...due to a disulfiram-like reaction (flushing, headache, nausea, etc).

Now recent CDC guidelines for sexually transmitted infections say there’s NO need to avoid alcohol while taking metronidazole...since there’s no convincing evidence of an interaction.
