Be Aware of a New Warning on Amoxicillin Labels

Updated medication safety labeling will raise eyebrows about a rare adverse drug reaction with amoxicillin.

FDA recently required labeling changes to amoxicillin and amoxicillin/clavulanate products to warn about drug-induced enterocolitis syndrome (DIES), a non-IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction.

Think of DIES as similar to food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), which can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, etc, after eating a specific food.
