The FDA recently removed precautions for nursing moms taking progestin-only birth control pills...Micronor, Nor-QD, Ovrette.
Until now, labeling for all the birth control pills cautioned about use during breast-feeding...but it's only the estrogen-containing pills that interfere with lactation.
Suggest starting the progestin-only pills three weeks after delivery for women who are partially breast-feeding. Women who are fully breast-feeding can wait 6 weeks...because ovulation is inhibited longer and they shouldn't need a contraceptive before then.
