The American College of Cardiology is now urging physicians to avoid treating hypertension with alpha blockers...Cardura (doxazosin)...Hytrin (terazosin)...or Minipress (prazosin).
This new recommendation is due to early results from the large ALLHAT hypertension trial.
This study suggests that alpha blockers are less effective than a diuretic for preventing heart failure and stroke.
