SINGLE DOSE of Zithromax (azithromycin) for acute otitis media

Pfizer is now testing a SINGLE DOSE of Zithromax (azithromycin) for acute otitis media.

A preliminary test suggests that one dose of Zithromax may work as well as giving Augmentin for 10 days. But it's too soon to recommend using Zithromax over amoxicillin or Augmentin.

Amoxicillin or Augmentin are still preferred for acute otitis media...especially in areas that have a high incidence of drug resistant Strep pneumonia or H. flu.
