new IV bisphosphonate called Zometa (zoledronic acid)
Novartis is now marketing a new IV bisphosphonate called Zometa (zoledronic acid).
It will be used as an alternative to Aredia (pamidronate)...for hypercalcemia and bone metastases in cancer patients.
Bisphosphonates lower serum calcium by inhibiting bone resorption. They also reduce bone pain and fractures due to bone metastases.
