Zithromax (azithromycin) is now approved to prevent Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC)...in patients with advanced AIDS.

Zithromax works better than rifabutin (Mycobutin) to prevent MAC...and about as well as clarithromycin (Biaxin).

One advantage to using Zithromax is that it's taken less often. Just once a WEEK...instead of daily like rifabutin or clarithromycin.
